Adding a New Group

Unlike other virtual monitor wall systems, it is very easy to expand our system to support additional displays. A single display and at least one module connected to the controller forms its own group. Rather than buying another cart cage/controller to support another display, all you need to do is buy an additional module to support a new display. You can also move modules from another group and reconnect it to form its own group. The first step is to connect the hardware and the second step is to configure the software to detect the new group. Make sure you understand these instructions so you can complete the steps in the least amount of time.

Connecting the Hardware

When expanding to a new display, you will need at least one spare module and an open RS-485 and DVI port on the back of the controller. If you do not have an available RS-485 and DVI port on the back of the controller, please give us a call for additional assistance. Also make sure each module has a unique ID if there are multiple modules in your new group.

NOTE: These instructions are for expanding to a second group with one module. If your new group has multiple modules, you will need to cascade the modules in addition to these steps.

1. Rack the module to the equipment rack where you are housing the other modules. Make sure the new module is relatively close to the controller.

2. Connect all your video inputs and if you are using composite inputs, make sure they are terminated. Also make sure your sources are outputting video to the module.

3. Connect the power chord and turn on the new module.

4. Connect either the VGA or DVI cable from the display to the VGA or DVI Out on the new module. You should now see four video images on your display. If you have multiple modules, the VGA or DVI cable goes into the last module.

5. Connect one end of the long RS-485 cable to the next available port on the controller and the other end to the Com In port on the module. If you have multiple modules, the RS-485 cable goes into the Com In port on the last module (Same module as in step 4).

6. Connect the next available DVI port from the controller to DVI Loop/DVI In port on the back of the module. If you have multiple modules, the DVI cable goes into the first module.

7. Now you must restart Windows in order for plug and play to detect the new DVI connection.

8. After Windows restarts, Right-Click on your desktop and then select Properties.

9. Select the Settings tab and then Identify. If you see a consecutive row of numbers on your display starting with your control display and ending with your new display, then plug and play is working correctly.

10. Now you can start the software.

Configuring the Software

The second step to adding a new group involves configuring the software so that it can communicate with the new module. Select play to watch the video demonstrating how the software is configured. Remember to enter avitech when the software prompts you to enter a password.

Click on Play Again to start the video.
